Controls Engineering Intern

We are seeking a motivated Controls Engineering Intern to join our team in Alpharetta, GA. This internship offers the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the design, development, and assembly of automated production equipment used in electronics manufacturing. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and technicians to support ongoing projects and learn about factory automation systems from concept through delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, programming, and debugging of automation systems using Rockwell (Allen-Bradley), Siemens, and Beckhoff PLC platforms
  • Support development and integration of C# applications for machine interfaces or automation control systems
  • Participate in system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting activities
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure full system functionality and performance
  • Help prepare technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and system configuration reports

 

Qualifications/Experience Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Strong interest in industrial automation, robotics, and control system programming
  • Basic understanding of PLC programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff) and C# programming fundamentals
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics and control system design using tools such as EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively
  • Eagerness to learn advanced automation technologies and industrial communication protocols

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with industrial automation software such as TIA Portal, Studio 5000, TwinCAT, or Visual Studio (C#)
  • Familiarity with HMI development, motion control, and I/O systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Understanding safety standards and best practices for industrial automation (UL, CE, ISO)
